I’ve dedicated my 20-year career to making the world a better place, and I’m intimately familiar with the challenges that nonprofit and government organizations face in doing so.
I am a words person, first and foremost. But I have been in the communication business long enough to know that sometimes, what looks like a communication problem runs a little deeper. Sometimes, what is needed for the best outcome is fewer words and more listening—to potential supporters, to recipients of services, and to community partners. Sometimes we need to first get our ducks in a row internally, before we can communicate who we are externally with a strong, unified voice.
I have worked as a program staff member for small, local nonprofit organizations; managed a busy communications team for a large government consulting agency; and provided communications strategy, project management, and content development for government, for-profit, and nonprofit clients as an independent consultant.
Regardless of my role, I am always the person asking the big questions: Why are we doing what we are doing? Why aren’t we getting the results we want? How can we do better?
